Positive Statements of Love:

“The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.”
– Morrie Schwartz

"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs."
- Chrissy, age 6 (My Little Sister’s Kid’s Sayings)

“There will come a time when, after harnessing the winds, the tides, and gravitation, we shall harness for God the power of love. And on that day, for the second time in the history of the world, we shall have discovered fire.”
– Pierre Tielhard de Chardin

“Love is a choice you make from moment to moment.”
– Barbara de Angelis
Happy Valentine's Day to...ME!

One of the best Valentine’s Day gifts you can give your loved ones is to love yourself.

How do you treat people that you love? Do you talk sweetly to them? Do you give them the benefit of the doubt? Do you build them up? Do you complement them? Do you buy them candy and flowers? When they frustrate you, do you remember how grateful you are to have them in your life?

How do you treat yourself? Do you use the same care and consideration you use with others in your life? When you make a mistake, do you forgive yourself? Are you unconditionally accepting of who you are?

I have personally experienced that the voice in my head is typically not as kind to me as the voice that comes out of my mouth is to others. Self-love, is a delicate dance. It is not in the slightest about being narcissistic or conceited. It is about being kind within so that you trust yourself enough to take risks and live life to the fullest. It is about cultivating love so that you can give it to others freely without depending on them to build your esteem.

I have had periods in past relationships, and even in my marriage, where I looked to my partner to fulfill all of my needs. It is as if I did not believe that I could make myself happy and content, so I depend on them to. That is a tough spot to put someone in. The love becomes so heavy and one-sided. Funny thing is, it never works. The void that is yearning to be filled by another is still present. Happiness and love are still just out of reach. From my experience, the relationship ends up mirroring the vastness within.

It takes building self-love to bring back mutual love and lightness. Healthy self-love means that you are coming to the table whole and complete. You can offer first what you would like to receive. The pressure is off and love can flourish, equally and abundantly.

On February 14th, if you hear yourself putting down who you are, what you think or how you act, ask yourself this: would I say that to someone I love? If that answer is no, say sorry to yourself and affirm, “I love YOU!”
