“Go and wake up your luck.“
-Persian Saying

Fill Up Your Luck Jar

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was to continually put energy toward my goals. It does not matter so much if it is the right energy, meaning the most calculated and planned out actions, but what does matter is forward movement. This is where luck comes into play.

Taking action is like putting pennies into a luck jar. When the jar gets full enough, it cashes in. The Universe responds to forward energy in serendipitous ways. Luck is the Law of Attraction in action. When enough energy is generated around a goal, it manifests, sometimes seemingly out of nowhere. It is the energy of forward movement that creates miracles. It is very difficult to plan specific luck, but you can count on it when you are committed to your goal, when you know what it looks like, what it feels like and you put action toward it.

When I was a senior in high school, I decided that I wanted to attend the University of Redlands, a small private college at the base of the San Bernardino Mountains. However, my dream did not fit into my family’s budget, by several thousand dollars. Despite that, my young, ambitious and sometime stubborn mind was committed to attending that school. I knew how it would feel to go there and my goal was clear. I began submitting for every scholarship I was even remotely qualified for. I spent hours writing essays, filling out applications and gathering transcripts. I put fourth relentless forward energy. With each action I took, I was putting pennies in my virtual luck jar.

One of the scholarships I applied for had a top award of $2,500. I did not pay special attention to it because I was applying for so many. Unbeknown to me, my luck jar was about to cash in. I received a call on an afternoon early in May from a gentleman representing the organization with the $2,500 scholarship. He explained that I was awarded a scholarship, but not the one I had applied for. They had selected 10 students for a “secret” scholarship of $10,000 per year for 4 years. On that day I was lucky. I cried.

Luck had paid for my college education at the university I long desired to attend.

I believe we can make our own luck. With commitment, desire, vision and good old action we put in deposits toward luck. Each day take action toward your dreams. It does not have to be the perfect action, but it has to be forward action. It is guaranteed that when full enough, your luck jar will cash in.

Journal Exercise:

When I have experienced luck in my life, what was the belief and action behind it?
