Is Jealousy Blocking Your Abundance?

As I sat across the table, I could not help but be jealous. She was gorgeous; he was handsome. She had a PhD, and he an MBA. Both were on a path toward careers that they loved. Their future was brighter than anything I could imagine. My thoughts pictured them living lavishly, everything as close to perfect as it could get. The feeling was intensified by my current state of debt and my unrest with my job. I wanted to achieve that level of abundance and success in my life, but something was holding me back.

The feeling of jealousy is a symptom. It is the result of a belief in lack. If you are jealous, than you must also believe that you cannot have what someone else has. There is a lack of something: money, resources, intelligence, support, etc… that is preventing you from having what they have. Fortunately, lack is a lie. It just simply isn’t true. There is an abundance of everything.

I heard a story about a man who dreamed of being rich. Each time he would pass a beautiful home or expensive car, he would declare: “I can have that.” Rather than be jealous, he claimed the abundance he saw as his own. You can do the same thing. Seeing someone else’s success is only evidence that it exists and that you can have it too.

When I realized that my feelings of jealousy were evidence that I believed in lack. I got busy turning that around. Every time I felt envious of anyone or anything, I would say “Good for them.” The more I began to affirm that abundance was something to be celebrated the more my abundance increased. The debt was paid off. I pursued a career I love. I drive a gorgeous car. The thing that was holding me back was one simple belief that was simple to change.

The next time you are jealous, laugh and affirm “Good for them.”
