The Key to Keeping New Year's Resolutions - Redefining Positive, Issue #016 December 28, 2011 |

Quotes on New Year's Resolutions: “Many people look forward to the new year for a new start on old habits.” -Anonymous “Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.” - Oprah Winfrey “Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any one thing.” - Abraham Lincoln Plan to Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions 2012 is destined to be a special year. Mystics are calling it the dawning of a new word age. I say that this year will be whatever you choose it to be. Many write off resolutions as promises we are bound to break around week 3 of January (or maybe day 3?). However, resolutions can be powerful commitments you make with yourself. The clock striking midnight can be imbued with the spark of a new beginning, a marker for the start of living the potential you know that you are. I am not writing your resolutions off as already broken because with a bit of planning you can stack the deck in your favor. Whatever your goal is I can tell you, guaranteed, that there will be obstacles to achieving it. For instance, if you resolve to start a daily workout routine, there will be a morning that you feel too tired to get out of bed, the flu will keep you off your routine for a few days, or a long weekend away will break your new habit. I’m not sure what it will be for you, but there will be an obstacle to contend with. Knowing this ahead of time gives you an advantage. Rather than go through the mental work of deciding in the moment how to stick to your routine when you feel tired or the cookies are calling your name, pre-plan for the obstacles. Think through some of the common obstacles that prevent you from sticking to your resolutions. Next, do some if-then planning. For instance: Our minds are super sneaky. If we leave overcoming obstacles until the moment they are staring us in the face we are bound to waste energy and feel guilty for letting our resolutions go once again. At the same moment you sit down to write out your resolutions, complete the journal exercise below to ensure that 2012 will be a special year in your life too. Journal Exercise: My New Year’s Resolutions are… (keep it to no more than 3) Obstacles that could arise include… If these obstacles arise then I will… Have you tried using positive thinking to change your life and then…nothing happened! I have been furiously researching affirmations, positive thinking, will power, goal setting and motivation, and there is some astounding research that flies in the face of popular self help techniques that were keeping me stuck and may be keeping you STUCK too! I am launching a new program to expose the 3 myths of being positive and deliver techniques that create measurable results, for everyone…not just a select few. The resolution to be more positive can lead to greater success and health, but only if you avoid these 3 pitfalls that most books and media promote. I can only take 20 people into the program, so if you are interested, reserve your spot today. For being part of this first run and just this once, I have taken 85% off the full price of the program.
